To prepare you for your stay with us at The Old Mushroom Farm, we've written

An Ode to Low Expectations.

BnB's that offer matching beige decor, air conditioning, tarred driveways, and DSTV are a click away. In fact you can book one right now at www.k*k-boring-hotel.co.za

Here at The Old Mushroom Farm we take a more rustic approach.

We think it's far more interesting.

There are a few things we take seriously, like comfy beds with crisp clean 100% cotton bedding. But if you're looking for a hedge-clipped country estate, 24 hour concierge, high-speed wifi, and electric fences there are plenty of lovely options in the area. (If you don't want your white sneakers to touch the soil, this isn't going to work out).

EXPECT:

* The occasional ladybugs landing on your pillow.

* A friendly dog greeting on arrival.

* Dirt road driveway (that gets muddy when it rains).

* Interesting architecture and repurposed farm buildings (not all windows were designed for curtains).

* Fresh air and wide open spaces.

Why on earth do people want to come here?:

– A down to earth, friendly atmosphere.

– No traffic.

– Surrounded by peaceful farmland.

– Your dog can come too.

– A million stars.

– You get to fill your basket with seasonal veggies in the Community Food Garden

Great coffee, eateries and events on your doorstep.

– A walking trail on site, with hiking and MTB trails just beyond.

– The experience of staying in an old mushroom growing tunnel.

– The kids play area has a trampoline, water slide, mini zip-line, and climbing logs.

– A whole farm to explore with interesting architecture, and artisan shops.

– The Karkloof Farmers Market is at the farm next door on Saturdays

– No cell reception (yes, thats a perk to some).

– We're just a 10 minute drive from Howick.

– Start your Midlands Meander route from here.

Everything you’ve heard is true, there is zero cell reception, our wifi can be average at times, and there are no televisions.

If you’re the type of person who wants to get your bike dirty, cozy up by the fire or wake up to stunning views we believe you will enjoy your stay at The Old Mushroom Farm.

If you’re still reading this, you might be thinking that we might, in fact, be your type. Which means you’re probably our type of guest. (Howzit). The Old Mushroom Farm is the easygoing, quirky farm-stay you've been looking for.

See you soon!

P.s. Those who come prepared have more fun:

* Pack your warm socks (From June to September the evenings can get chilly).

* Bring fire lighters for your braai and fireplace (we supply the firewood).

* BYOB. Our eateries are unlicensed.

* Gumboots are a whole lot of fun.

* Bring board games, puzzles and cards.

* Bring a portable wifi router if you really must have steady connection.

* Bring your bicycle. The nearby MTB trails really are world class.
