It's the final weekend of the popup contemporary art exhibition, ISIVIVANE, in the & Kin Auditorium at The Old Mushroom Farm, Howick. Sunday the 18th of November 2024 is the last full day where you can come and see the artworks on display by local KZN artists. The exhibition is free to attend, and all are welcome.
Curated by Mamba Buthelezi, under the Umsamo Artist Guild, the exhibition is a celebration of young contemporary artists of the KZN Midlands.
Featured Artists:
- MUZI NDLELA
- THAMSANQA MFUPHI
- MAMBA BUTHELEZI
- SIR LINCOLN
- JAMES YOUENS
-MZAMO MLAMBO
- LUNGISANI NDLOVU
Isivivane, directly translated from isiZulu, means "pile of stones" (like a cairn), and refers to a concept found in a number of other African cultures which promotes the spirit of togetherness among people in society.
Mamba explains that the exhibition has been a homecoming for many of these young artists who have had to leave the area for work. The young artists have come together to exhibit, and so has the broader community in support. In the spirit of Isivivane, we are stronger together.
As a first time curator, Mamba reflects that the exhibition has had a good run so far and that the community has shown up to support. “The response has been phenomenal and makes it clear that I want to put on more of these popup exhibitions in the future.”
We love that there are fresh faces on the Midland’s art scene and that the youth in KZN are showing promising artistic talent. The art on show is an incredibly diverse mix of styles and mediums including wood carving, integrated textiles and natural material.
You’re invited to visit the & Kin Event Venue this weekend and enjoy these beautiful artworks before they are taken down on Monday.
